Snowmageddon Commute This Week

The crazy weather conditions in western Washington made for some crazy driving conditions the last couple days. Fortunately there were not a lot of folks out trying to get around so it was not as bad as it could have been. Some video showing how bad the roads were:

School bus running a red light..

Caught this on my way to work this morning. Thank god it was not Lynnwood- otherwise the Arlington School District would be getting a ticket in the mail.. .

Winter arrives early in Snohomish County

It's been cooling off for the past couple days and the forecast has been suggesting we could get some snow in the puget sound area. Woke up this morning to a light dusting of the white stuff. For some reason anytime you get that first snow of the season it's pretty exciting.

I decided to drive up the Mountain Loop highway to see if there was more accumulations, I wanted to test out my new snow tires on my Escape Hybrid. (The BMW is nice and dry in the garage)

My Hybrid is front wheel drive only, so I'm a little concerned about how it will do in the snow. I finally got up to some decent accumulations and found the tires worked excellent, not as good as four wheel drive, but if I use some decent judgement I should be able to get around in all but the worst of snow.

The scenery up the Mountain Loop is always nice to take in, and with a light coating of snow it's even prettier.

long day of driving

GPS trip summary

I had to make a quick trip to Longview today for a meeting. It was a real treat given the torrential downpour, standing water, accidents, and general crappy driving conditions. 9 hours of driving at an average speed of 40MPH. Made for a long day behind the wheel.

Rural Metro Ambulance running codeWDOT and WSP dealing with one of several accidents.
